Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister to visit Vietnam on August 4
(VOVWORLD) - Switzerland’s Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis will pay an official 3-day visit to Vietnam, starting Wednesday, to forge closer ties between the two countries.
Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Ivo Sieber said the visit will strengthen bilateral long-term and close relationship, especially in this challenging time. Vietnam-Swiss partnership is developing finely and will continue this way in the post-pandemic recovery period. What have been achieved in the two countries’ relations will contribute to further the sustainable and close partnership between Vietnam and Switzerland in the future, said Sieber.
Switzerland was one of the first western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in November 1971. Switzerland opened its Embassy in Hanoi in February 1973, and its Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City in March 1994.
In July, 1984, Vietnam opened its Consulate in Geneva and upgraded to General Consulate in December 1994. In January 2000, Vietnam officially opened its Embassy in Bern, capital of Switzerland.
