Syria’s state-run SANA news agency reported yesterday/ on Sunday that the country welcomes the presence of international observers to monitor the current shaky truce because it has nothing to hide. SANA said that Syria endorsed the UN observers mission because it has nothing to conceal and hopes that the observers will see what is really happening on the ground. From the start of the conflict, Syria was open to many initiatives and efforts to help it emerge from its current crisis that is seriously compromising its security and endangering its stability. The agency stressed, however, that any efforts aimed at ending over a year of violence must be based on respect for Syria’s sovereignty. The SANA report came as the first half-dozen observers from the missions advance team were due in the Syrian capital on Sunday, although their flight plans were unclear.
