(VOVworld) - The Syrian troops on Sunday took back the strongholds in the Eastern city of Deir al- Zor that they lost to the Islamic State (IS) group.

SANA quoted a Syrian military statement as saying ten IS gunmen were killed in the Tharda mountain attack with Syrian fighter jets. Governmental militants took the control of positions lost to the IS. 

Earlier, Syrian news agency said US alliance aircrafts targeted at 5 PM on Saturday a Syrian Army position in al-Tharda Mountain in the surroundings of Deir Ezzor Airport. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 60 Syrian soldiers were killed and 100 others were injured in the attack.
