Syrian opposition forces meet in Madrid

Factions of the Syrian opposition forces held talks in Madrid on Monday seeking to coordinate their approach to Syria’s bloody civil war. The meeting took place with the international community putting increasing pressure on them to open a dialogue with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. According to the Spanish Foreign Ministry, one of the main purposes of the talks is to “create favorable conditions for a dialogue among factions of the divided Syrian opposition”. Previously, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said that Spain backs the formation of a national unity government in Syria as a way out of the two-year conflict.
