Taliban agree to remove Afghanistan from Doha office name

The US on Thursday said that the new office of the Taliban movement in Qatar is not considered as an Embassy and praised the removal of the name Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the Taliban office. US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Rosemary Dicarlo said in a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan that both US President Barack Obama and Afghani President Hamid Karzai called on Qatar to open a new office for the Taliban to promote peace talks but stressed that “US does not acknowledge the name Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”. The US welcomes Qatar to name the office “Bureau of Peace Talks.” The same day, spokeswoman for Chinese Foreign Minister Hua Chun Ying urged the international community to support the negotiation process in Afghanistan. China, maintains its stance that the international community needs structured measures for the negotiation process respecting Afghanistan independence and territorial integrity.
