Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus single nominee as WHO chief
(VOVWORLD) - Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus may serve as the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a second term after becoming the only candidate nominated by 28 countries, Western diplomats said on Friday.
Diplomats said that in late September, they received a letter from WHO sent to 194 member countries, which announced a single candidate for the next term of WHO chief.
Among the 28 countries that nominated Mr. Tedros are European Union members and three African countries.
The new term of the Director-General of WHO will start from August 2022.
Tedros, a former health and foreign minister of Ethiopia, was elected WHO chief in May 2017.
