Tension escalates between US and Iran over UN official’s visa issue
(VOVworld) - The United States insists that it will not issue a visa to Iran’s selection for the position of ambassador to the United Nations, Hamid Aboutalebi, given his role in the 1979 hostage crisis at the US Embassy in Iran. Iran’s Deputy UN Ambassador Hossein Dehghani said Iran is deeply concerned over the US rejection of the visa, insisting that it violates the US international legal commitments as well as its agreements with the UN. Earlier, Iran requested a special meeting of a UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country to discuss the matter, and the committee has set a meeting for April 22
