Tet gatherings held for religious dignitaries, overseas Vietnamese, artists

(VOVworld) – The Can Tho municipal Fatherland Front Committee held a get-together Tuesday for 120 local religious dignitaries to welcome the lunar New Year festival. In her address, deputy chairwoman of the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee Vo Thi Hong Anh hailed the contributions by the local authorities, the public, and religious followers to the city’s development in 2015. Can Tho has fulfilled 15 of its 16 set targets with remarkable achievements in economic growth and the city’s competitiveness index. The city’s poverty rate has dropped 1.3% annually.
A ceremony was held the same day in Hau Giang province, where the local government presented certificates to 11 overseas Vietnamese who have made significant contributions to local social security. Approximately 10,000 overseas Vietnamese from Hau Giang have turned their hearts and souls to their homeland and contributed to national development. Hau Giang received 60 million USD in remittances in 2015 while many overseas Vietnamese contributed their money and labor to upgrade the local infrastructure and support disadvantaged people.
Kien Giang province hosted a ceremony for overseas Vietnamese to welcome the lunar New Year. Kien Giang received more than 80 million USD in remittance in 2015, up 10.75%. Many overseas Vietnamese have invested in Kien Giang’s tourism, hotels, processing industry, and aquaculture.
