(VOVworld) - Thailand has begun the process of naming Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as the country's new king. The prince, who will be known as King Rama X or the 10th king of the 234-year-old Chakri Dynasty, will succeed his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died on October 13.

The Cabinet on Tuesday submitted Vajiralongkorn's name to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) after a brief meeting, completing a formal step for the heir to take the throne. The NLA President will meet with the crown prince to formally invite him, which he has to accept before becoming King. The procedure will take place on Wednesday.
The new King will then address the celebration of Thailand’s National Day on December 5th, also known as the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
