th session of the 13
th National Assembly will open on May 20. During 28 days of meeting, the deputies will debate to approve 11 revised laws and 3 resolutions and make the first review of 16 revised laws.
The National Assembly is scheduled to spend 7 days to discuss supervisory work and other major national issues. The National Assembly will listen to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh reporting on the East Sea situation, China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang 981 oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, and Vietnam’s orientation and measures.
Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Head of the National Assembly’s Office, told a press conference in Hanoi on Monday: "The National Assembly will listen to a government report on the East Sea and the deputies will discuss the issue. In the spirit of respecting the law, Vietnam’s National Assembly is determined to resolve the dispute by peaceful measures based on international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the UN Charter. In international parliamentary forums, Vietnam will continue to inform international partners to gain support in confronting China’s illegal actions. We thank world parliamentarians for voicing their opposition to China’s violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty and supporting our requests for cooperation."
Mr. Phuc said the National Assembly would discuss the government report on the East Sea on Tuesday.
The National Assembly Standing Committee will make supplements to the resolution on the vote of confidence on officials elected or approved by the National Assembly and People’s Councils.
