(VOVworld) – The ASEAN-EU dialogue relations has covered all areas over the past 3 decades, including politics and security, economics, trade, investment, and culture.

ASEAN’s Secretary General Le Luong Minh was speaking at a ceremony of the Celebration of the ASEAN Day in Asia House, London. He said that EU is one of the most important and active participants in ASEAN Regional Forum and strongly supports the ASEAN central role in regional mechanism.  The EU is ASEAN’s biggest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and ASEAN’s second largest trading partner.

Minh said the UK has played an important role in strengthening the cooperative relations between the EU and ASEAN. The UK joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2012 reflected its commitments in reinforcing its connection with ASEAN to promote peace, stability, and security in the region. In 2011, Britain set up the UK-ASEAN Business Council to express its determination and aspiration in strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries.
