The Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum 2016 opens
(VOVworld) – The Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum 2016 opened on Monday in Hau Giang province. Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Southwestern Steering Committee Vuong Dinh Hue said the event was a good chance for enterprises, donors and localities to enhance cooperation. He also asked provinces and cities to take measures to facilitate investors including administrative reform.

The 9th MDEC, under the theme “Mekong- Delta- Active Integration and Sustainable Development”, will focus on major issues related to climate change and sea level rises, such as drought and salinity intrusion, along with technology applications in agriculture and the marketing of local produce, particularly rice, fruits and aquatic products. Various activities were held as part of the program to promote handicraft villages and typical traditional specialties of localities.
The same day, the World Bank and the State Bank of Vietnam signed agreements and credits for two projects to support urban development, climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods in the Mekong Delta. Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said the two projects with 560 million USD worth of loans and credits will help the Mekong Delta in its long-term adaptation to climate change. The two projects will enhance the region’s capability to adapt to climate change, improve its land and water management, develop infrastructure, transportation, enhance regional connectivity and support urban development.
