(VOVworld) – The revised Labor Code comes into effect on Wednesday with a number of changes giving laborers more benefits. The maternity leave will be extended from 4 to 6 months and the new-year holiday will be 10 days instead of 9.

The revised Labor Code also increases the salary of apprentices by 70% and keeps the retirement age at 60 for men and 55 for women. Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen said: “The Government will consider some special cases that can have their retirement age extended according to the law. These will include high level managers and highly qualified people. By so doing we will make the best use of their knowledge, settle issues concerning gender equality and give young people the opportunity to develop.”
