The US wishes to play a positive role in East Asian development
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc and the ASEAN Ambassadors in Washington D.C. held a virtual discussion the Acting Director of the International Financial Development Agency of the United States (DFC) David Marchick.

During the talk, Mr. Marchick emphasized that the DFC hopes to play an active role in the development of Southeast Asia, with priority given to the Mekong sub-region.
DFC's activities under the Biden administration will focus on climate change response and sustainable development, promoting investment in green energy and climate resilience projects.
The DFC will also support the region to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic through the health system consolidation, vaccine distribution as well as SMEs support in the agriculture and education sectors. At the same time, the DFC will cooperate with partners such as Japan, Korea, Australia, and Chinese Taiwan to enhance the efficiency of investment projects.
Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc suggested that the US Government will continue to support countries in Southeast Asia and the Mekong sub-region to develop sustainable supply chains and improve digital trade capacity.
He called for more investment in high-quality infrastructure such as Long Thanh airport project, North-South expressway, and other projects in renewable energy and LNG liquefied natural gas. The Ambassador called for the US support to the ASEAN in Covid-19 vaccine access and investment in the form of public-private partnerships (PPP) as well as through US cooperation frameworks.
