The Nobel Assembly said that scientists will routinely use modeling to understand how different biological molecules interact, to probe the mechanisms of disease, and to design novel drugs. Through the three scientists’ work, researchers can understand and predict complicated chemical reactions that occurred in just 1/1000 of a second. Their discovery lays a foundation for programs that can predict chemical reactions to produce new kinds of pharmaceuticals. The winners will receive their award at an official ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on the day Alfred Nobel died, December 10.
