Speaking to the press after a discussion with Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, Ms. Koike said some of the 6 public venues, planned to hold screening events for the public to watch the Olympic and Paralympic competitions, will be used as COVID-19 vaccination centres.
These locations include Yoyogi, Inokashira and Hibiya parks in the capital.
The public is concerned about the potential spike in the number of COVID-19 cases as new variants of the SARS-CoV2 virus are still highly contagious.
The meeting between Prime Minister Yoshihide and Governor Koike took place ahead of an online meeting on Monday during which the Olympic and Paralympic organizers will decide the number of spectators allowed to attend the matches.
