(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan on Friday held a tribute-paying ceremony for former Party General Secretary Do Muoi who passed away on Monday.

Attendees included Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Japanese Diet Tadamori Oshima, Vice Speaker Hirotaka Akamatsu, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Norikazu Suzuki, Governor of Mie prefecture Eikei Suzuki, and Special Advisor to the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Tsutomu Takebe. Representatives of foreign diplomatic corps in Japan also attended the ceremony.
Writing in the funeral book, Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Suzuki expressed his deep condolences over the passing of Mr. Do Muoi who contributed greatly to Vietnam’s development as well as to improving cooperative ties between Vietnam and Japan.
Former Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroyuki Yushita recalled his meeting with former Party Chief Do Muoi during his mission in Vietnam. He praised Mr. Do Muoi’s contributions to boosting the friendly relations between Vietnam and Japan.
The Vietnamese Embassy and Consulate General in Australia held a tribute-paying ceremony and opened the mourning book for former Party leader Do Muoi. Representatives from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassies of Laos, Indonesia, Venezuela, and Bangladesh paid tribute and signed in the mourning book. They expressed their condolences over the passing of the Vietnamese longtime leader, who made contributions to the struggles for national liberation and development.
Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations on Thursday held a ceremony to pay tribute to former Party General Secretary Do Muoi and opened a funeral book.
The mission observed a minute of silence and burned incense in memory of the former Party leader. Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy recalled contributions of the leader during more than 70 years serving the Party and the nation.
Many overseas Vietnamese, foreign ambassadors, representatives of other UN delegations and international organisations in New York, and local officials paid their respects to the former Vietnamese Party chief at the mission’s headquarters.
