In addition to enhancing security in the common border areas, the Israeli military will improve its operational command to respond to challenges along the border. The IDF has also set up special protected areas to prevent a flood of refugees fleeing from the raging violence in Syria.
On Thursday Turkey announced it was deploying rocket launchers and other weapons along its border with Syria. The Turkish TV channel TRT showed footage of about 30 military vehicles equipped with anti-aircraft guns and many other weapons on their way to Turkey's coastal town of Iskenderun, 50 km away from the Syrian border.
These moves from Israel and Turkey take place as the world powers are preparing for an international conference on Syria in Geneva on Saturday, proposed by UN and Arab League Envoy Kofi Annan.
