(VOVworld) – Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday that the coup attempt was a black mark on Turkish democracy, which left 265 people killed and 1,440 injured.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that the government and President have been firmly in control of the country. The situations have become more stable. Many places in the capital city of Ankara have resumed normal operation with shops being opened while a number of flights have been resumed.

President Erdogan pledged to eject betrayers from the General Staff and to purify the army.  He also demanded the US extradite an exiled Islamic cleric he blames for Friday’s upheaval for Turkish justice. The cleric, Fethullah Gulen, is living in Pennsylvania.

On Saturday, the Turkish parliament convened an extraordinary meeting following the failed coup which is said to be conducted by supporters of cleric Gulen.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said investigation will cover all aspects of the coup and take into consideration of mistakes in the national intelligence system. He added among almost 2,900 arrested members of Turkish military forces,  there are high-ranking officers.

In another development, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau, head of the Vietnamese delegation to a UNESCO meeting in Istanbul, said on Saturday that all members are safe and their itinerary remains unchanged. Duong Quy Nam, the first secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in Turkey, said no Vietnamese has been reported to be affected by the coup.
