Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung inspects rescue work in the disaster-hit areas

By 1 PM on Thursday, 66 people were buried in two serious landslides in the province. So far, 19 bodies have been found. Rescue teams are rushing to find other victims.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on Thursday visited Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province to direct the search and rescue work. He asked the rescue forces to act quickly in disaster-hit localities.

Quang Nam province mobilized all forces to the disaster site. Nguyen Quang, Vice Chairman of the Phuoc Son District People’s Committee, Quang Nam province, said: "50 militia men and many locals have been mobilized to help find the disaster site because the roads are seriously eroded and inaccessible. We have set up a rescue team managed by the army and security force and soldiers are trying to find a way to the landslide site."

Water is receding in Quang Ngai province but the low-lying areas remain isolated due to flooding. 6,000 households have been evacuated. By Thursday morning, 5 areas with 500 households remain isolated. Multiple forces are helping the local people recover from disaster.

Dinh Van Sam, Chairman of the Nghia Hanh District People’s Committee, Quang Ngai province said: "We are working on plans to distribute food and drinking water to people in flooded areas and checking roads with fallen trees to make prompt recovery measures. All disaster-hit localities are trying their best to recover. We have mobilizedforces to help disadvantaged localities."

During a visit to Quang Ngai province, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, who is Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Response, asked the province to urgently restore people’s houses, the electricity, telecommunications, and water systems.  Minister of Defense General Ngo Xuan Lich said the Ministry will mobilize forces and vessels to join search and rescue work to mitigate losses for fishermen.
