The decision removes a key military partner from the American-led coalition against IS. US officials confirmed that the UAE’s move followed concerns about the safety of pilots and strategic disagreements with the US over the American handling of the campaign. The UAE has demanded that the US improve its search-and-rescue efforts, including the use of V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, in northern Iraq.
