In an article published in The Sunday Times and Welt am Sonntag in Germany, Cameron and Baerbock expressed their concern that “too many civilians have been killed” and called on Israel to immediately stop attacks.
The 78th UN General Assembly passed a resolution on December 12 calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and immediate, unconditional release of hostages. The UK abstained from the UN vote.
The resolution, sponsored by Egypt representing the group of Arab countries, was passed in the context of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza showing no signs of cooling down, while the UN Security Council continued to be in a deadlock in finding a unified solution to the conflict.
