Ukraine appoints new Acting Prime Minister
(VOVworld) - The Ukrainian cabinet on Friday appointed Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman as acting prime minister, one day after the incumbent, Arseny Yatsenyuk, announced resignation. Groysman will serve as acting PM until the parliament elects a new interim head of the cabinet, the government's press service said.

According to the Ukrainian Constitution, only the parliament has the power to dismiss the prime minister by voting within 10 days after receiving a written resignation request. The Ukrainian parliament's speaker, Oleksandr Turchynov, said the parliament had received Yatsenyuk’s resignation letter which will be discussed at the Parliament later on. Yatsenyuk resigned Thursday after two coalition partners pulled out to launch the process for new parliamentary elections and the parliament’s refusal to support government initiatives on state budgets and reforms of the national oil and gas group Naftogaz.
