(VOVWORLD) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday a humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine doesn’t seem possible at the moment.

He told reporters in New York that the UN is awaiting answers from Russia about its humanitarian proposal regarding evacuating civilians and delivering urgent assistance to those in need.
He added that Undersecretary-General Martin Griffiths for humanitarian work was sent to Moscow and Kiev at the beginning of this month to seek possible ways to reach a ceasefire and evacuate civilians from combat zones, such as Mariupol, but it’s highly unlikely that there will be a deal.
Guterres asked the International Monetary Fund to financially aid poor countries struggling with an economic crisis as a result of the conditions in Ukraine. He also warned of political and social insecurities caused by price hikes.
