(VOVWORLD) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossion Tuesday to discuss the IAEA's mission at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President and the IAEA Director General emphasized the importance of sending an IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant and asserted that any incident there will cause global consequences. Mr. Zelensky welcomed the IAEA' delegation and expressed his hope that the mission led by Mr. Grossi will find a way to prevent security threats.
The IAEA mission will assess damages at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the level of safety and functionality its security systems, and conditions of the staff.
Recently, the area around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has seen a number of military attacks. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of shelling the plant, leading to requests for an IAEA inspection of the facility.
