Attending the event are the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and 9 countries and territories, including Cameroon, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Trinidad, Tobago, and Vietnam.
High on the agenda is the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework based on realities on the ground at national, regional, and global levels. The event is sponsored by the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-NET).
They will also discuss results, challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned from implementing initiatives that are supported by the BES Solution Fund. The sharing of experiences will help guide future policies, research, and solutions, bolster cooperation, and strengthen global commitments on protecting biodiversity.
Vietnam’s effort in preserving biodiversity has been acknowledged internationally. From 2017 to 2022, Vietnam completed the Vietnam National Ecosystem Assessment based on guidelines of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and supported by BES-NET. Vietnam has also held a number of consultation workshops on biodiversity conservation engaging policy makers, scientists, and local and international experts.
