(VOVworld) – UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson called for international unity against terrorism at a press conference at the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee office in New York.

Eliasson warned terrorist groups were trying to “divide” and “polarise” nations, however, the UN “must not fall into their trap,” but instead remain devoted to human rights and the rule of law. Mr Eliasson said all nations needed to strengthen their criminal justice systems to respond to “the complex nature of terrorist crimes in an accountable and transparent manner.”
