Guterres talked by telephone with concerned parties, asking them to exercise maximum restraint, take all necessary steps to avoid escalating tensions through military or other actions, and comply with the UN mediated ceasefire. The UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) reported that the armed forces of both Morocco and the Polisario Front are deployed along the border between Morocco and Mauritania, which might lead to a recurrence of armed conflict in the area.
