UN continues call for global ceasefire
(VOVWORLD) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Friday once again called for a global ceasefire, urging conflicting parties to lay down weapons, so that war-torn countries could focus on coping with the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the UN's online press conference, Guterres said that the worst is yet to come, particularly with countries such as Syria, Libya, and Yemen. He said there was some positive progress after the first call for ceasefire last month as the call has been endorsed by 70 Member States, regional partners, non-State actors, and others. The UN chief said, however, armed conflicts take place in some countries, which makes it impossible for local authorities to cope with the Covid-19.
