(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council on Monday postponed a vote calling for a sustainable cessation of hostilities in Gaza.

This decision was made to facilitate ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas and prevent a scenario where a veto could disrupt the process, as occurred with the previous vote.
Intelligence officials from the US, Israel, and Qatar convened in Poland on Monday to evaluate the potential for a new ceasefire agreement. In recent weeks, the US and European officials have made repeated trips to the Middle East to seek a solution to the conflict.
Israel is under mounting domestic and international pressure to reduce its military operations in Gaza and prioritize the protection of civilians.
Israel earlier this month issued evacuation instructions for individuals still in Gaza as its troops entered Khan Younis, and reopened the primary cargo route into Gaza, but the volume of aid entering Gaza is less than half of the pre-conflict delivery of goods.
