The vote on the resolution was 100-11, with 58 countries abstaining. Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Syria, Sudan, North Korea, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe voted against, while Brazil, South Africa, and China abstained. The resolution, drafted and proposed by Ukraine, underlines Ukraine’s territorial integrity and political independence, saying that it does not recognise the legitimacy of the Crimean referendum.
The same day, the EU said that it will provide Ukraine 1.2 billion USD within the next 3 months if Ukraine can reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As part of the West’s 27 billion USD aid package, EU will give Ukraine 11 billion USD in loans and aids within the next few years, with the first disbursement of around 140 million USD to take place next month.
On Thursday, the US Congress on Thursday passed legislation backing 1 billion USD loan guarantee for Ukraine.
