Kutesa proposed as the theme for the 69th session: "Delivering on and Implementing a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda." He said the world continues to confront challenges of global scope, including poverty and hunger, unemployment, climate change, armed conflicts, and emerging security threats such as transnational organized crime, terrorism, piracy, and human trafficking.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon hailed Kutesa’s experience gained from his wide-ranging jobs, adding that the UN General Assembly presidency demands a variety of skills like bridge-building between UN members and the patience to guide the body through long, complicated negotiations.
