(VOVworld) – The UN Human Rights Council has concluded final debates and approved 34 resolutions including a draft convention on the rights of the child and climate change jointly initiated by Vietnam, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.

After three weeks of consultation, the documents received much feedback from various countries, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and researchers.
In the draft convention, Vietnam pointed out negative impacts of climate change on human rights. In Vietnam, climate change has been causing harmful effects claiming the lives of thousands of people each year, destroying houses, schools, and infrastructure works. Moreover climate change has challenged food security of both Vietnam and its food importers.
The adopted resolution proves the international attention to the relations between the rights of the child and climate change which will be further discussed at the council’s 34th session next March. The council also asked other UN agencies to conduct research on the issue. On top of three initiator countries, about 100 other countries have registered to sponsor the resolution.
