UN pledges to help Vietnam combat crimes

- UN Under-Secretary General Yury Fedotov has committed to continue support and cooperation with Vietnam to combat crime and drug trafficking. At a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi yesterday, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crimes (UNODC) applauded the Vietnamese Government for its significant achievements in reducing crime with nationwide measures and cooperation at regional and international levels. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Vietnam fully adheres to the UN Conventions on crime and drug prevention, and is exerting every effort to fulfill its commitments. He suggested that UN agencies continue assisting the Vietnamese Government and relevant bodies to successfully implement the 2012 – 2016 Joint Plan and other National Plans.
