The Council has also urged North Korea to restraint from provocations to escalate tension on the Korean Peninsula.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, said the Korean peninsula, particularly following recent missile launches, is of particular concern.
The US urged the UN Security Council to convene the meeting after South Korea’s military reported that North Korea had launched at least one Rodong middle-range ballistic missile from its southwestern region of Sukchon which flew about 800 km before hitting the sea.
