UN condemned "terrorist" activities

(VOVworld) - The UN Security Council on Thursday convened an urgent inclusive dialogue in Iraq and condemned "terrorist" activities but did not consider any action against militants now heading toward Baghdad. Russia said the 15 members voiced unanimous support for the government and people of Iraq in their fight against terrorism and called for a broad-based dialogue. Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin said UN Security Council members urged Iraq’s government and the international community to support the UN mission on the ground, in responding Iraq’s humanitarian crisis.

In Iraq, gunmen seized two strategic areas in Diyala province, 125 km northeast of Baghdad.

Iraq’s parliament failed to convene a meeting to discuss declaring a state of emergency after an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) troop took control of several Iraqi cities.
