(VOVworld)- The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution demanding a full international access to the wreckage of the Malaysia Airlines passenger jet MH17 downed over eastern Ukraine and an end to military activities in the area. At Monday meeting, participants also called for a “full, thorough, and independent international investigation” into the tragedy. The passage of the resolution followed intense negotiations caused by Russia’s objections over several clauses of the Australia-drafted resolution. US Ambassador to the United Nation, Samantha Power, continued to call on Russia to use its influence over separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine to abide by the just-approved resolution. According to Ms. Power, the Security Council resolution would become worthless if Russia didn’t urge armed forces there to allow unimpeded access to the plane wreckage site. Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, warned against "jumping to conclusions" on who was to blame for the tragedy.
