UN Security Council to discuss Myanmar crisis

(VOVWORLD) - Britain has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Myanmar.

The Council will begin the session behind closed doors on Wednesday with a briefing on the situation by the UN’s special envoy on Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has hailed ASEAN’s response to the crisis in Myanmar. Motegi and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, at a meeting on Monday, agreed to coordinate closely to improve the situation.

The US Trade Representative said Monday that the US has suspended all engagement with Myanmar.

The Kremlin said on Monday that it is deeply concerned by the situation in Myanmar.
