(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will serve as the President of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in April, the second time the country will assume the post during its 2020-21 tenure as a non-permanent member.

In addition to the regular agenda, Vietnam will promote its own initiatives including an open debate on fostering cooperation between the UN and regional organizations in enhancing trust-building and dialogue to prevent conflicts.
"We are facing numerous challenges including developments in Myanmar, Syria, Yemen, and Libya, and the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula. Though it seems easier for major countries to seek a common voice on some issues than when Vietnam served as the UNSC President in January last year, there are still differences among them," said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
"A UNSC President must balance their viewpoints so the Council can make timely and correct decisions in dealing with emerging issues,” he noted.
