(VOVworld) –The Syrian government and opposition groups will be invited to a new round of negotiations on March 23 in Geneva, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said on Wednesday.

His statement came following a US commitment to support negotiations sponsored by the UN. At a press conference after his report to the UN Security Council on the results of the latest Syria talk, Mistura said all representatives have agreed to remain at the negotiation table. They have set out an agenda and a timetable, and resolved some practical issues. Mistura said the 5^th round of negotiation will focus on governance, constitutional process, elections, anti-terrorism, and reconstruction. The EU and the UN will host an April workshop in Brussels on Syrian reconstruction, but assistance will only begin once a political transition is in place in Syria.
