(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting Tuesday behind closed doors on the ethnic Armenian region of Nagorno-Karabakh, where fierce fighting has raged since the weekend.

Germany and France requested the meeting and other European council members, including Belgium, Britain and Estonia, immediately supported the idea.
Russia, Iran, Spain, and Turkey have called for a ceasefire, and the EU has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation, and a strict observance of the ceasefire.
