(VOVWORLD) -The US and Australia have agreed to strengthen defense cooperation with Japan and to invite Japan to integrate into force posture initiatives in Australia, said US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
He told a press conference after talks with his Australian counterpart Richard Marles on Tuesday in Washington DC within the framework of the annual Australia-US Defense-Foreign Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN).
Austin said the United States and Australia agreed to increase the rotation of bomber task forces, fighter jets and the US Army and Navy.
Marles said that both Washington and Canberra look forward to more engagement with Japan. They will go to Japan at the end of this week with an invitation for Japan to participate in more exercises with Australia and the United States.
