(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting on Monday with US President Joe Biden, who is on a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Government leader highlighted the importance of the elevation of Vietnam‑US ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of considering the US a strategically important partner, welcoming the US’s support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.

To make the Vietnam‑US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership effective, the Prime Minister asked the two sides to strengthen cooperation in every channel including diplomacy of the Party, State and the people. He said economic-trade-investment cooperation should be considered an eternal motivation for bilateral ties, asking the US to soon recognize Vietnam’s market economy status as well as to upgrade the framework agreement on trade and investment, while encouraging American high-tech businesses to expand their investment in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister said he hoped the US would continue to support Vietnam in deploying the UN’s peacekeeping activities.
President Joe Biden reaffirmed the US’s support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam and its innovation, expansion of international integration, greater role in ASEAN and the region and in international cooperation in dealing with global challenges.
President Biden agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the orientations and directions to implement the new framework of bilateral ties as well as priority areas for cooperation including health care, social security, green energy and high tech.
