At the Nixon Library in California, Pompeosaid maybe it's time for a new grouping of like-minded nations, a new alliance of democracies, adding “If the free world doesn't change, China will surely change us."

Pompeo said the Trump administration’s China strategy is getting harder and called on nations to induce change in China’s behavior because Beijing’s actions are threatening other nations’ people and prosperity.

He said the US will continue dialogues with the Chinese but the nature of the dialogues will now be different. America can no longer ignore the fundamental political and ideological differences, just as China has never ignored them, he said.
