(VOVworld) – The 7th US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue has concluded in Washington with progress in network security, environmental protection, finance, and international cooperation. After the US alleged state-sponsored cyber hacking by China, the two countries agreed to work together to complete a code of conduct for cyber activities.

At a press conference with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, US Secretary of State John Kerry said cyber hacking has caused great losses to US enterprises, and the two sides need to cooperate to deal with this problem: “We believe very strongly that the US and China should be working together to develop and implement a shared understanding on appropriate state behavior on cyber space. And I am pleased to say that China had agreed that we must work together to complete a code of conduct regarding cyber activities”.
Mr. Jiechi called on the US to be more prudent: “China reaffirmed its stance on Taiwan, Tibet, and maritime and cyber security. The US needs to respect and support China’s interests and should be prudent when dealing with differences on sensitive issues”.
The two countries agreed to boost cooperation in sea protection, and fighting illegal seafood exploitation, and wild animal trafficking, and announced a number of initiatives in response to climate change.
China pledged to open its capital markets and give foreign finance companies more opportunities. The two sides also pledged to cooperate in anti-terrorism, improve healthcare in Africa, stabilize Iraq and Syria, and resolve nuclear issues in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Iran.
Despite this progress, at a White House reception for the Chinese delegation, US President Barack Obama expressed concern about China’s cyber activities and provocations in the East Sea and urged Beijing to take concrete steps to reduce tensions in the region.
