(VOVworld) - The US has closed all its prisons in Afghanistan and no longer has custody of any detainees inside the country, in preparation for the withdrawal of all American soldiers from Afghanistan after 14 years of war.

The detaining of prisoners of war and the management of prisons has long been a point of controversy in US-Afghanistan relations. Last March the two countries reached an agreement under which US troops would hand over Bagram detention facility to the Afghan government.
In February, 2012, a US detention center in Afghanistan sparked riots when an American soldier burned a copy of the Koran there.
