(VOVworld) – The US will import coffee and garments from non-state Cuban companies starting in May. The State Department said the decision matches President Barack Obama’s reform policies towards Cuba announced in 2014. It also said that imported products from Cuba must abide by the US’s customs law.

Earlier this year, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of Treasury allowed the import of some products and services supplied by Cuba’s private companies including software and communications products.
In December, 2014, Cuban President Raul Castro and US President Barack Obama announced the beginning of a process of normalizing relations after more than half a century.
In September, 2015, the two countries opened embassies and resumed relations in finance, banking, trade, and telecommunications.
