(VOVWORLD) - Japan and the US on Friday agreed to issue a Joint Statement on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and make a joint effort to prevent proliferation and completely eliminate nuclear weapons.

The two countries declared that they share a common understanding of the necessity of preventing nuclear war and creating a world free of nuclear weapons.
The joint statement called on countries to work together to reduce nuclear risks and improve transparency in arms control.
The Governments of Japan and the United States agreed to actively work toward the complete, verifiable, and irreversible elimination of North Korea's nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
