A Pentagon spokesperson, Colonel Steve Warren, said the training flight lasted for one hour and did not encounter any Chinese airplanes. Earlier on Monday, the Pentagon said China’s creation of an “Air Defense Identification Zone” in the East China Sea would not change the way the US carried out military activities in the region. According to the Pentagon, US aircraft would not have to declare either their flight schedule nor give any signal as it was international airspace.
Amidst escalating tension in the East China Sea, the UN called on all parties to solve their disputes through diplomacy. Martin Nesirky, a spokesperson for the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon, said on Tuesday that Mr. Ban hoped that related parties would solve the problem by a show of good will, diplomacy and in line with international law.
