(VOVworld) - The Pentagon on Wednesday warned of possible attacks by supporters of the Islamic State in the US over the Independence Day holiday.

US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter told reporters at a news briefing on Wednesday that lone-wolf attackers inspired by the IS pose threats to the security of the coming holiday. He said in this era of social media, an organization like IS, unlike Al- Qaeda in the old days, doesn’t necessarily need a command-and-control relationship with somebody who instigates an incident.
Before the Pentagon warning, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security had already sent bulletins to local law enforcement to beef up security over the July 4th weekend.
